Tesla (TSLA) sets new records with 184,800 vehicle deliveries

According to the company's numbers on Friday, Tesa delivered 184,800 cars in its first quarter of 2021, which is more than it produced over the three months. In total, the electric vehicle company made 180,338 cars.

The numbers also exceeded the analyst's expectation; they expected Tesla to deliver around 168,000 vehicles during the period, according to estimates compiled by FactSet as of April 1. Moreover, the Q1 deliveries also beat their previous record of 180,570 deliveries made in Q4 in 2020. Tesla has been ramping up its production capacity as it just missed on the goal of delivering 500,000 cars by just 450 in 2020, set by CEO Elon Musk.

Among the cars delivered, approximately 183,000 were Model 3 and the Model Y vehicles, which is 3000 more vehicle models delivered than produced ratio in Q1. The company sold an additional 2,020 Model S cars — just 1% of its total deliveries —made in the previous quarters.

In a statement, Tesla stated that new equipment is installed and tested for the Model S and X in Q1, and the company is now in its early stages of ramping in production for its updated versions. Tesla had announced the redesigns for the Model S and Model X vehicles in January 2021, including new powertrains, higher range options, and the landscape in the car display.

Tesla and Musk haven't yet announced any ambitious delivery goal for 2021 as they did in 2020. But with its record-breaking numbers in Q1, it seems Tesla has already embarked on surpassing last year's goals.

Tesla's latest numbers represented more than a 100% increase compared to the same period last year. The company first began deliveries of Model Y, but just a 2 % increase from the quarter ending 2020.

Investors and analysts expect Tesla to build more cars in 2021 significantly. The company continues to accelerate production at its existing factories and adds new production lines in Germany and Texas.
